How the Friendly PowerSports Trade-In Process Works — Step by Step
First-Time Trading? Here’s Exactly What to Expect.
Trading in a powersports vehicle is simpler than most people expect — and more straightforward at Friendly PowerSports than most dealerships make it. This page walks through every step of our trade-in process so you arrive knowing exactly what’s going to happen, what you need to bring, and what a fair outcome looks like before you walk through the door.
No surprises. No pressure. A straight line from “what’s it worth” to “here’s your new machine.”

How Long Does the Whole Process Take?
For a straightforward trade-in with clear title and a machine in good condition, the complete process from walking in to driving home runs 2–3 hours in most cases. Here’s how that time breaks down:
Physical inspection: 20–30 minutes. Written offer: 10 minutes. Machine selection and test sit: 30–60 minutes depending on how decided you are. Finance and title paperwork: 30–45 minutes. Machine prep and delivery: 15–30 minutes.
Factors that extend the timeline: outstanding loans that require lender payoff coordination (add 30–60 minutes for payoff confirmation), machines that need more detailed inspection due to modifications or condition questions, and financing applications that require additional documentation. We’ll flag any of these when we contact you to confirm your visit.
Saturday appointments are available — call (985) 214-4935 Thursday or Friday to check Saturday availability if you can’t make it during the week.
Trade-In FAQ — Questions We Get Every Week
Do I have to buy a new machine to trade in? No. We purchase machines outright from owners who want to sell without buying something new. The trade-in credit structure applies when you’re purchasing a replacement — but we buy machines independently of new purchases as well. Call us if you want to discuss an outright sale.
What if my machine doesn’t run? Non-running machines have value — often more than owners expect, depending on the platform and what’s wrong. We evaluate non-runners on a case-by-case basis. Call ahead before bringing a non-running machine so we can set the right expectations. We may ask you to describe the condition and known issues before scheduling an appraisal visit.
Can I trade in a machine I bought somewhere else? Yes. We don’t require that you purchased from us to trade here. Your machine’s value is determined by what it is, not where you bought it.
Can I trade multiple machines toward one purchase? Yes. Multiple trades can be combined and applied toward a single purchase. Each machine is appraised separately and the credits are summed. This is common for buyers who are consolidating — selling two older machines toward one new one.
What if I owe more than the machine is worth? Negative equity — where your loan payoff exceeds your machine’s trade value — can be rolled into the new loan. This is common and manageable. We’ll show you exactly what the negative equity adds to your financed amount before you commit so you can make a clear-eyed decision.
Do you take WaveRunners as trades? Yes. Yamaha WaveRunners in rideable condition are among the machines we evaluate most actively. For WaveRunner trades, bring the current registration certificate alongside your title. The inspection covers hull condition, hours, and mechanical operation in addition to the standard appraisal factors.
What about Mississippi residents — is trading across state lines complicated? Not for us. Our title team processes out-of-state titles routinely. Mississippi residents bring their current Mississippi title, and we handle the paperwork from there. Your new machine is titled for Mississippi registration through our normal process.
Will the online estimate match the in-person offer? Usually close, sometimes different. The online tool uses market data for your model and a self-reported condition assessment. The in-person inspection confirms condition directly. If there’s a gap, we explain the specific factors that changed the number. We don’t use the in-person appraisal to dramatically revise a high online estimate downward — that’s the practice that gives dealerships a bad reputation, and it’s not how we operate.
Things That Don’t Affect Your Offer
A few things sellers worry about that don’t actually move the number:
Whether you bought from us or a competitor — we don’t reward loyalty through trade-in values. The market determines the offer, not your purchase history.
Cosmetic wear consistent with normal use — scratches and scuffs on a working ATV or a well-used WaveRunner are normal. We don’t penalize machines for looking like they’ve been ridden.
Not having every piece of paperwork on day one — if you’re missing the owner’s manual or don’t have full service records, we work with what you have. It may slow the process slightly but rarely changes the offer.
Aftermarket accessories that are cleanly installed — winches, light bars, upgraded wheels, and similar additions from quality brands typically add value in proportion to their cost.
