Why OEM Parts Matter — and When Aftermarket Makes Sense

This is a conversation worth having honestly, because the answer isn’t always the same.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are the components manufactured to the exact specifications of your machine’s builder — Polaris, Honda, Yamaha, or Kawasaki. When your machine is under active manufacturer warranty, using OEM parts for repairs is required to preserve warranty coverage. Full stop. Substituting aftermarket parts on a warranty repair can void the claim, and manufacturers have the ability to deny warranty work when non-OEM parts are detected.

Beyond warranty requirements, OEM parts are the default correct choice for safety-critical components — brakes, steering, suspension, fuel systems — where dimensional tolerances, material specifications, and failure mode engineering are specific to the platform. A brake pad engineered for a Polaris Ranger’s specific rotor diameter and caliper pressure profile is a different component than an aftermarket pad that fits the same caliper. Both may stop the machine. They won’t stop it identically.

Quality aftermarket parts make genuine sense in specific categories — performance upgrades, aesthetic customization, wear items where aftermarket quality meets or exceeds OEM at a lower price point, and replacement of components on older machines where OEM availability is limited. The aftermarket brands we carry are chosen specifically because they meet the quality bar — not because they’re the cheapest available option.

The honest guidance: for anything safety-critical, anything under warranty, and anything on a newer machine — start with OEM. For performance upgrades, accessories, and maintenance items on out-of-warranty machines — quality aftermarket is often the right call. Our parts team will tell you which category your specific need falls into and recommend accordingly. We’re not trying to sell you the most expensive option. We’re trying to sell you the right one.

OEM Parts We Stock and Order

Four Brands. Direct Factory Access. The Complete Catalog Available.

As an authorized dealer for all four brands, Friendly PowerSports has direct OEM ordering access to the complete parts catalog for Polaris, Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki. Here’s what that means in practical terms for each brand:

Polaris OEM Parts

Request Polaris Parts

Authorized Polaris dealer parts access covers the complete current and recent model year catalog for Ranger, RZR, Sportsman, Outlaw, General, and all Polaris ORV platforms. We stock high-turnover Polaris wear items — belts, filters, fluids, brake pads, and common maintenance components — and can order any part in the Polaris OEM catalog with typical 1–3 business day arrival for current models.

Commonly requested Polaris parts:

  • CVT drive belts (Ranger, RZR, Sportsman) — one of the most frequently replaced wear items on any Polaris machine
  • Oil filters and engine oil (PS-4, VES, AGL gear lube)
  • Air filters — engine and cab-mounted on enclosed models
  • Brake pads and rotors — front and rear for all platforms
  • Wheel bearings — particularly common on machines with heavy trail and water crossing use
  • Tie rod ends and steering components
  • Fuel filters and fuel system components
  • Body panels and bed components for Ranger platforms
  • Electrical components — switches, relays, lighting
  • Winch components and accessories

For Polaris machines purchased at Friendly: we pull your vehicle record and can look up parts by your specific VIN — eliminating the risk of ordering the wrong part for your build configuration.

Honda OEM Parts

Request Honda Parts

Authorized Honda Powersports dealer access covers the complete Honda catalog — ATVs (Foreman, Rancher, Recon, TRX), side-by-sides (Pioneer 700, 1000), motorcycles (CB, CBR, Rebel, CRF, NC, Gold Wing platform components), and all current Honda powersports platforms. Honda’s OEM parts program is one of the most well-stocked in the industry — availability on current models is consistently strong, and Honda maintains parts availability for older platforms longer than most manufacturers.

Commonly requested Honda parts:

  • Engine oil and filters (GN4, Pro Honda HP4, HP4M for dual-clutch models)
  • Air filters — Honda’s multi-stage filtration systems are model-specific
  • Spark plugs — Honda specifies particular NGK or Denso plugs by platform
  • Brake pads and rotors for ATV, motorcycle, and Pioneer platforms
  • Drive chains and sprockets for chain-drive motorcycles and CRF dirt bikes
  • Clutch components for manual-clutch motorcycles and dirt bikes
  • Fork seals and suspension components
  • Pioneer drive system components — Honda DCT components require OEM specification
  • CRF motocross and trail bike wear components — plastics, exhaust, suspension
  • Electrical and lighting components

Honda is particularly strong on parts availability for older machines — if you’re keeping a 2005 Foreman running, the OEM catalog is often still your best source. Ask our parts team about current availability on vintage platform components.

Yamaha OEM Parts

Request Yamaha Parts

Authorized Yamaha dealer parts access covers the complete Yamaha powersports catalog — WaveRunners (all current FX, GP, VX, JetBlaster platforms), ATVs (Grizzly, Raptor, Kodiak, Wolverine), motorcycles (MT series, YZF-R series, YZ motocross, FZ), and all current Yamaha platforms. Yamaha’s WaveRunner parts program deserves specific mention — as the only authorized Yamaha WaveRunner dealer on the Northshore, we’re the correct source for watercraft-specific OEM components for Gulf Coast and Lake Pontchartrain riders.

Commonly requested Yamaha parts:

  • WaveRunner impellers and wear rings — the most critical wear item for riders in debris-prone water (Pearl River, shallow lake areas)
  • WaveRunner pump components and ride plate hardware
  • WaveRunner hull fittings, intake grates, and jet pump covers
  • WaveRunner battery and electrical components
  • Grizzly and Kodiak ATV drivetrain components — front diff, rear diff, gearbox seals
  • Grizzly and Raptor brake components
  • MT-09 and YZF-R series motorcycle service components — brake pads, chain and sprocket sets, filters
  • YZ and YZF motocross wear items — piston kits, valvetrain components, plastics
  • Yamaha fuel system components and carb rebuild kits for older platforms
  • Yamaha lubricants — Yamalube 4 and 4M engine oil, gear oil, brake fluid

WaveRunner parts note for Gulf Coast buyers: Impeller and pump wear is accelerated in shallow, debris-heavy water. If you ride the Pearl River, Back Bay of Biloxi, or other coastal waterways with vegetation and silt — schedule an impeller inspection annually and keep a spare impeller on hand. We stock common impeller sizes for current WaveRunner platforms.

Kawasaki OEM Parts

Request Kawasaki Parts

Authorized Kawasaki dealer parts access covers the complete Kawasaki catalog — RIDGE and MULE side-by-sides, Brute Force ATVs, Ninja and Z motorcycles, KLX dual-sport and dirt bikes, and all current Kawasaki platforms. Kawasaki’s RIDGE is a relatively new platform — OEM parts availability is strong on current production components, and our direct factory access means we’re sourcing from Kawasaki rather than waiting on secondary distributor inventory.

Commonly requested Kawasaki parts:

  • MULE and RIDGE drive belt — one of the most common maintenance items on CVT-equipped Kawasaki UTV platforms
  • Brute Force 450 and 750 filter and fluid maintenance components
  • Kawasaki Ninja 650 and Z500 motorcycle service items — brake pads, chain/sprocket sets, oil filters, fork seals
  • KLX300 and KLX300SM service components — air filters, chain and sprocket, brake components
  • RIDGE body components and cab trim — newer platform, ask about current panel availability
  • Kawasaki electrical components and lighting
  • Kawasaki-specific fluids — K-Tech engine oil, gear oil

Parts Categories We Carry

What’s On the Shelf and What We Order.

Our parts department maintains standing inventory on high-turnover wear items and maintenance components across all four brands. Here’s a breakdown of the major categories we stock and order:

Engine & Drivetrain

Oil filters, air filters, fuel filters, spark plugs, drive belts (CVT), chains and sprockets, clutch components, piston and top-end rebuild kits for dirt bikes, valve adjustment shims, engine gasket sets, camshaft components. Engine oil in manufacturer-specified grades and formulations for all platforms — we don’t substitute generic oil on machines with specific viscosity and additive requirements.

Brakes

Brake pads (front and rear), brake shoes, brake rotors and drums, brake calipers, brake master cylinders, brake lines and fittings, brake fluid (DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 5.1 by platform). We specify OEM or OEM-equivalent brake components on all safety-critical brake work — not the cheapest available alternative.

Suspension & Steering

Fork seals and dust wipers, fork oil, shock absorber rebuild components, suspension linkage bearings and seals, tie rod ends, ball joints, wheel bearings and hub components, steering stem bearings. Suspension components are safety-critical — we use OEM or equivalent-specification parts exclusively in this category.

Electrical & Lighting

Batteries (maintenance-free AGM, conventional, and lithium-compatible fitments), battery chargers and tenders, spark plugs, CDI units and ignition components, stator and charging system components, switches and relays, OEM lighting components, fuses and fuse holders, wiring harness repair components, speedometer and gauge components.

Body & Cosmetics

OEM replacement plastics and body panels for ATVs, side-by-sides, and motorcycles. Fenders, tanks, seat covers, fairings for applicable models. WaveRunner hull and deck components. Handlebar pads, grip replacements. Touch-up paint by OEM color code. Frame guards and skid plates.

Tires & Wheels

We stock and can order tires for ATVs, side-by-sides, motorcycles, and dirt bikes across major brands. ITP, Kenda, Maxxis, Dunlop, Michelin, Bridgestone, and Pirelli in common sizes for the machines we service. Rim tape, valve stems, and mounting hardware. Call or submit a parts request with your tire size and machine details and we’ll confirm availability and pricing.

Fluids & Lubricants

Manufacturer-specified engine oils for all platforms — Polaris PS-4, Honda Pro Honda GN4 and HP4M, Yamaha Yamalube, Kawasaki K-Tech. Gear oils and differential fluids. Brake fluid. Coolant and antifreeze. CVT lubricants. Chain lube and cleaner. Fuel system cleaner and fuel stabilizer — particularly important for WaveRunner winterization and machines that sit between seasons.

WaveRunner-Specific Parts

Impellers and wear rings, jet pump components and seals, ride plates, intake grates, hull fittings and plugs, battery maintainers for seasonal storage, spark plugs (WaveRunner-specific heat range), fuel system components, flushing attachments, and Yamaha Marine lubricants. We maintain deeper WaveRunner parts inventory than most inland dealers because our Gulf Coast and Lake Pontchartrain customer base actually puts these machines in the water — hard and regularly.

Accessories & Upgrades

Winches (Polaris, SuperATV, Warn) for ATV and side-by-side applications. Plow systems and blade kits. Roof and windshield systems for UTVs. Cargo accessories — tie-down systems, bed liners, box extensions. Audio systems and Bluetooth speakers for side-by-sides and WaveRunners. LED lighting upgrades. Handlebar and ergonomic accessories for motorcycles. Luggage and touring accessories for ADV and touring platforms. Youth safety gear — helmets, gloves, boots, and riding gear for the machine categories we sell.

How to Order Parts at Friendly PowerSports

Three Ways. One Fast Response.

Online Parts Request Form Submit the Parts Info Request form on this page with your year, make, model, VIN (if available), and a description of the part you need. Our parts team responds same day during business hours with availability, pricing, and estimated arrival time if the part needs to be ordered. The VIN field is particularly valuable — it lets us pull your exact build configuration and confirm the correct part number before we order.

Call the Parts Counter (985) 214-4935 — Ask for the parts department. Our parts team picks up the phone and can look up parts in real time while you’re on the call. Have your year, make, model, and part description ready. If you have a part number, even better — but it’s not required. We can cross-reference from a description in most cases.

Walk In Come to our parts counter at 38008 Browns Village Rd, Slidell — Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bring your machine’s year, make, and model. If you have the VIN, write it down before you come — it eliminates configuration ambiguity on parts that vary by build year or trim level. For common wear items we stock (filters, belts, brake pads), we can often have you out the door in minutes.

Parts arrival time: Most OEM parts for current-model Polaris, Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki machines arrive within 1–3 business days via our factory direct ordering account. Older model year components may take longer depending on manufacturer stock levels — we’ll give you an honest estimate rather than a optimistic guess.

OEM vs. Aftermarket — The Brands We Trust

We carry aftermarket only when the quality is right.

Our aftermarket parts selection isn’t a random assortment of whatever ships fastest from a distributor. It’s a curated selection of brands that we’ve determined meet the quality standard for the application — brands our service technicians use on their own machines and the shop’s service work.

Aftermarket brands we carry and trust:

Tires: ITP, Kenda, Maxxis — the dominant brands in ATV and UTV tire applications with proven compound and construction quality. Dunlop, Michelin, Bridgestone, and Pirelli for motorcycle applications.

Electrical: Yuasa batteries — the benchmark AGM battery brand for powersports applications. More reliable cold-cranking performance and longer service life than generic alternatives in the same fitment.

Lubricants: Maxima Racing Oils — factory-level lubricant quality for riders who want OEM-grade protection without OEM brand pricing on out-of-warranty machines.

Suspension: Fox Racing Shox components for machines where factory suspension is being upgraded — compatible with Polaris and Kawasaki platforms specifically.

Accessories: Warn and SuperATV for winch applications. KOLPIN and Seizmik for UTV cab accessories. Wet Sounds and Rockford Fosgate for audio applications on WaveRunners and UTVs.

Brands we intentionally don’t carry: no-name import components with no warranty support, counterfeit OEM lookalikes, or safety-critical components (brakes, steering) from manufacturers we can’t verify meet dimensional and materials specifications. If we wouldn’t put it on a machine our team rides, we won’t put it on yours.

Parts for Machines We Don’t Sell

You Don’t Have to Buy From Us to Buy Parts From Us.

Our OEM ordering access covers Polaris, Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki. If you’re riding one of those brands — regardless of where you bought it, how old it is, or whether you’ve ever set foot in our store — we can source OEM parts for your machine.

For riders on brands outside our authorized lineup — Suzuki, KTM, Husqvarna, Harley-Davidson, BMW, Can-Am — our OEM ordering access doesn’t extend to those manufacturers. We carry some aftermarket parts that cross-fit these platforms (tires, batteries, generic filters), and our service team can point you toward the right authorized source for OEM-specific components on other brands.

For Mississippi Gulf Coast buyers: you don’t need to find a parts source on your side of the state line if your machine is a Polaris, Honda, Yamaha, or Kawasaki. Submit a parts request online or call us — we can confirm availability and ship to you or hold for pickup on your next visit.

Why Buy Parts from an Authorized Dealer

The internet is full of powersports parts. Not all of them are what they claim.

Counterfeit and substandard powersports parts are a real and growing problem in the online marketplace. Brake pads that don’t meet the friction coefficient specs on the listing. Belts with incorrect dimensional tolerances that slip under load. Electrical components that don’t meet the voltage specifications for the application. These aren’t hypothetical concerns — they’re documented failures that cause breakdowns, accelerate wear on related components, and in the case of safety-critical systems, create genuine safety risks.

Buying from an authorized dealer gives you three things the internet cannot:

Authenticity. Parts sourced through our factory ordering account are genuine OEM components from Polaris, Honda, Yamaha, or Kawasaki. Not grey-market inventory. Not counterfeits. The part that Polaris engineered for your specific machine.

Correct fitment. Our parts team looks up parts by your machine’s specific year, make, model, and build configuration. A part that fits the 2023 Ranger 1000 may not be the same part as the one that fits the 2022 model. We pull the correct part number rather than the closest approximation.

Accountability. If a part is wrong or defective, you know where we are and we’re responsible for making it right. That accountability doesn’t exist with a third-party seller on an online marketplace.

Serving Slidell, the Northshore & the Mississippi Gulf Coast

Friendly PowerSports Parts is the Northshore’s authorized OEM parts source for Polaris, Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki — and for Mississippi Gulf Coast riders in Picayune, Waveland, Poplarville, and Pearl River County, we’re your closest authorized parts source for these brands on this side of Hattiesburg.

Whether you’re doing your own maintenance, preparing for the season, or sourcing parts for a repair our service department is handling — we have what you need or we can get it in 1–3 business days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most OEM parts for current-model Polaris, Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki machines arrive within 1–3 business days via our factory direct ordering account. We’ll give you an accurate estimated arrival time when you submit your request — not a best-case guess.

Not required, but strongly recommended for anything beyond basic consumables. The VIN lets us pull your exact build configuration and confirm the correct part number — particularly important for multi-variant models where the same machine was built with different specifications across build years or trim levels.

We don’t race to the bottom on parts pricing — it would require sourcing from suppliers we can’t verify. What we offer is the assurance that the part is correct, genuine, and backed by our parts department. For high-volume maintenance items (filters, fluids, belts), our pricing is competitive with legitimate online OEM parts sources.

Our service department installs parts we supply. We generally do not install customer-supplied parts — this is standard practice at authorized dealerships because we can’t warranty workmanship on components we didn’t source and verify. If you have OEM parts you’ve sourced elsewhere and want them installed, call our service line at (985) 832-4537 and describe the situation — we’ll give you an honest answer on a case-by-case basis.

Yes! Helmets, gloves, boots, riding apparel, and protective gear for the machine categories we sell. Ask at the parts counter about current gear inventory and sizing.
